We have a great opportunity for a Contract Purchasing Manager to join us at Graham Plumbers Merchant, based in Bristol. You will maintain very high levels of inventory availability and optimise the economics of stockholding. The CPM will aim to improve profitability and sales, while reducing operating costs and inventory holding.
To raise and process all manual purchase orders for assigned branch inventory.
Implementation of Automated purchasing (ABR) across the assigned branches, to be maintained at agreed % levels.
Work closely (as a cohesive team) with the General manager, Area Sales Manager, sales teams and estimating department.
Maintain very high levels of stock availability for all ranges.
Manage the purchasing of non-ranged stock to operational standards, ensuring we are not left with unsalable stock.
Operate within agreed inventory budgets.
Set and maintain purchasing diaries/calendars to optimise supplier input cost, and branch put-away capability.
Implement & maintain local stock profiles to satisfy forecast sales demand.
Hold stock and raise purchase orders in the most economic quantities.
Build robust forecast mechanisms and information networks across your operational and sales teams.
Optimise profitability through buying with minimal handling, minimum cost and minimal administration for both external suppliers, DC’s & other branches.
Identify and challenge any activity and behaviour that is negatively impacting profitability relating to stock & buying.
Use only approved suppliers & products, or seek suitable approval for use of other suppliers/products.
Work with colleagues across all relevant departments to improve data systems and processes, resolve queries and avoid repetition of problems.
Identify slow moving stock, and act to return/sell/remove before it is written down. Where product is written down, work with the branch & sales teams to rapidly remove the stock at a profit.
Drive continual improvement through suitable departments to optimise inventory management and the end to end costs of managing the inventory lifecycle.What we’re looking for in a Local Purchasing Manager:
Two years’ general stock control/multisite experience
Two years Buying/Purchasing experience
Merchant or fast moving consumer goods experience desirable.
Competent user of suitable IT systems, e.g. Kerridge, SAP, Microsoft, particularly Excel & Access
Proven negotiating capabilities
A deep understanding of the Sales, Operations and Purchasing processes at branch & area level
Working knowledge of working capital and economic order quantities
Good analytical skills, processing large volumes of data to make effective decisions
Ability to manage and influence and coach best practice relating to maximising system functionality
