There are delays on the M4 motorway heading into Bristol after a crash involving a car and a van today (Thursday, July 8)

Traffic on the eastbound carriageway was held while the car was moved to the hard shoulder, Inrix reported.

The incident happened just after 11.30am and lane three was closed from junction 18, for A46 (Bath/Tormarton) to junction 17, for A350 (Chippenham)

Progress remains very slow near the crash due to long tailbacks building up while the traffic was stopped.

Inrix said: “Slow traffic due to earlier accident, a car and a van involved on M4 Eastbound from J18 A46 (Bath / Tormarton ) to J17 A350 (Chippenham).

“All lanes have been re-opened. Traffic was held while the car was moved to the hard shoulder. Lane three (of three) was initially closed.”

Google Maps is showing very slow and even stationary traffic in the area of the crash between Tomarton and Littleton Drew.
