Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Dr Hilary Jones said he believes we need to vaccinate more cases before we lift all restrictions as infections continue to rise.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a press conference earlier this week that all restrictions were set to lift on July 19.
This includes wearing masks and social distancing, which is proving controversial with academics and politicians.
Host Alastair Campbell said: “That is the problem with this whole debate at the moment. They talk about data not dates, but the data looks like it’s going in the opposite direction to the policies.”
“Yes, that’s absolutely right.” responded Dr Hilary. “And I do hope on the 19th of July they look at the figures again and say actually we need to postpone it.”
Alastair questioned if the doctor meant the 19th to look at data and Dr Hilary said: “Sorry the 12th, they’re looking at it on the 12th, to postpone what they are proposing on the 19th.”
Alastair then said: “I think we need a bit longer. I think we need to vaccinate a few more people.”
