
“There was an influx of prosecutions in court with law-abiding citizens whom had never been in trouble before finding themselves in court for travelling 70 mph in a 40 mph because it was not publicised that these new motorways were enforceable when the speed showed.
“Most did not know the difference and the first they became aware is when they were prosecuted.”
Mr Uddin added many older drivers could be “oblivious” to the new changes and “to anticipate” pedestrians or cyclists in the road.
This could result in cars slamming on the brakes, potentially leading to a serious injury or fatality.
