His father has also been convicted of manslaughter and child cruelty after the pair subjected him to months of “unimaginable” torture.
Emma Tustin, 32, the step-mother of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, murdered him by repeatedly slamming his head on a hard surface.
Ms Tustin, along with Thomas Hughes, starved the boy and poisoned him with salt.
A harrowing video, taken just hours before he died, showed the six-year-old grimacing in pain as he repeatedly shouted “no one loves me” and “no one is going to feed me”.
Ms Tustin, who was convicted of murdering Arthur on June 17 2020, took a photograph of the boy as he lay dying in the entrance hall of her home.
Mr Hughes was found guilty of manslaughter, for encouraging the killing, including by sending a text message to Ms Tustin just 18 hours before his death, telling her to “just end him”.
He was cleared of murder.
The young boy ended up in the custody of his father after his mother, Olivia Labinjo-Halcrow, 29, killed her partner Gary Cunningham by stabbing him 12 times with a kitchen knife in a drunken rage in February 2019.
According to Arthur’s maternal grandmother, Madelaine Halcrow, Ms Tustin was “obsessed” with the idea Thomas could go back to Olivia.
She alleged that Ms Tustin, who had two of her children taken into care after a suicide attempt, believed “the only way she could get Olivia out of her life was by getting rid of Arthur”.
