Foreign holidays hopes for fully vaccinated Britons amid lockdown easing delay

People who have been fully inoculated could soon be able to book holidays to international destinations under proposals “being considered by the Government”, the Telegraph reported. New plans could see a return of foreign holidays to amber list countries with just a coronavirus test needed upon return in the UK.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is said to be “open” to the motion, which is understood to be at an early stage.

A senior source told The Telegraph: “They haven’t definitely got there yet, but that’s the direction of travel.”

Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced the delay of the easing of all lockdown restrictions by up to four weeks.

Boris Johnson said on Monday: “It is sensible to wait just a little longer.”

Revealing a new date for the lifting of Covid rules of July 19, Mr Johnson added: “Now is the time to ease off the accelerator.”

The gap between first and second injections for the over-40s is expected to be cut by a third, from 12 to eight weeks, to help hit the new target.

Everyone aged 18 and over should have been offered at least one jab by the new lockdown end date.

Mr Johnson said in a televised statement: “Now is the time to ease off the accelerator.

“By being cautious now we have the chance – in the next four weeks – to save many thousands of lives by vaccinating millions more people.

“We can give the NHS a few more crucial weeks to get those remaining jabs into the arms of those who need them.

“And since today I cannot say that we have met all our four tests for proceeding with Step 4 on June 21, I think it is sensible to wait just a little longer.”

The Prime Minister stressed he was “confident” no further delays in easing the restrictions would be needed.

He added: “It is unmistakably clear the vaccines are working and the sheer scale of the vaccine rollout has made our position incomparably better than in previous waves.”
