A gathering of around 30 have stormed the Scottish landmark, Edinburgh Live reported.

Reports of an incident emerged around 5.45pm, with emergency services currently in the area, close to the entrance to the Museum of The Royal Regiment for Scotland.

One eyewitness claimed that members of the public were swiftly evacuated after the group arrived.

In a video shared on social media, one woman can be heard saying “we have seized Edinburgh Castle”.

She continues: “We’re waiting to restore the rule of law. We’re doing this peacefully and we’re doing this lawfully.

“We are using article 61 of the Magna Carta. We have had enough. The people of Scotland have had enough and today we claim our power back.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers are currently in attendance at Edinburgh Castle and are engaging with a group of people who have gathered within the Castle grounds.”
