PTSD, depression, and anxiety
Surfing can help with lots of mental health issues, including PTSD, depression and anxiety, it’s been claimed.
The activity is known to reduce stress and is increasingly being used by forward-thinking therapists to deal with these concerns.
As well as a tool for those dealing with stress, getting into the ‘flow state’ is beneficial for all our mental wellbeing, helping to cultivate a more laid back ‘surfer’ attitude to life.
Even the NHS agrees, with a 2010 study finding ‘significant improvements in mood’ following a programme of surfing.
