Bristol band Idles will play Coachella this year alongside the likes of Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Kanye West.

The local post-punk stars are among a stellar lineup for the world famous event, set to return to the Southern Californian desert in April after a two-year hiatus.

This year marks the first time the band will play Coachella in what’s expected to be one of their biggest gigs yet.

The lineup for the festival was announced on Wednesday this week.

Idles, who released their fourth album Crawler in November, will play the Friday slot alongside Phoebe Bridgers, slowthai and headliner Harry Styles.

Saturday will see performances from the likes of Flume, Megan Thee Stallion and headliner Billie Eilish.

On Sunday Doja Cat, Jamie XX and Fat Boy Slim will perform ahead of a headline performance by Kanye West, now legally known as Ye.

The festival is set to make its comeback over two weekends – April 15-17 and April 22-24 – having experienced multiple delays and cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tickets for the first weekend of the festival have sold out, but tickets for the second weekend are available to buy from today (January 14.)

Idles, who are currently touring around the UK and Europe, last played in Bristol on Clifton Downs in September – a gig billed by some as their “homecoming show.”

Prior to that the band played intimate gigs at The Louisiana, the venue where they started out, as a thank you for its support.

The band has gone from strength to strength since it formed in 2009, selling out gigs at Brixton Academy and headlining international festivals.
