Jake Cornish’s parents discuss life before Love Island

Jake Cornish’s proud parents have shared adorable childhood pictures of the Love Island 2021 star and revealed what he enjoys most in life.

Mum Rachel says she’s a big fan of Jake’s first villa girlfriend Liberty. She’s also revealed his strict diet that keeps to stay in such good shape.

On Tuesday night’s episode Hugo Hammond, a teacher from Hampshire, became tearful when a comment he made during a game, upset fellow housemates Fay and Sharon.

Jake, from Weston-super-Mare, was right by his side offering comfort and reassurance.

Mum Rachel Cornish said “Jake is kind and honest. What you see is what you get. His friendships are important to him. He loves to be around people, and you will not find him on his own. When he goes to the Gym it’s with his friends.”

Since entering the show, he has struck up a connection with Liberty Poole, a stunning blue-eyed blonde who is “just Jake’s type”, said dad Jake.

Jake coupled up with Liberty on tonight’s show

Jake has made it clear to Liberty that they should both be opened to getting to know other housemates that may come into the Villa in the future.

While some die-hard Love Island fans expect to see commitment from the first ‘coupling-up’, reality suggests few fall in love so quickly.

Liberty seemed to accept and agree with that notion – a strong signal that these two are on the same page. But tensions have been rising, since Jake’s eye has been turned by new girl Millie.

And sparks are expected to fly in tonight’s (July 8) episode.

But Rachel is a fan of Liberty saying: “She’s lovely and funny. They are just like each other. They have good banter and Liberty is on his level.

“She is his usual type (physically) with blonde hair and blue eyes. She has a good sense of humour and likes party games, and he is into that too. They are well-matched. They (Love Island) have hit the nail on the head.”

Jake is very close to his family, spending lots of time with his parents and cousins.

“He’ll come in for a haircut from his mum, then go to his cousins and they’ll do the gym in the garden”, said Mark.

Rachel says Jake has always had a real zest for life.

“He is not one to sit still for long, he always says ‘You only get one life, why sit around and let it go by.’”

Fitness mad Jake used to play for Somerset County, and dreamed of growing up to be a famous footballer.

Mark said: “He supports Bristol City locally and Southampton. When he was younger, he wanted to grow up to be a professional footballer.”

He enjoys the gym and watches what he eats: “Jake eats chicken and broccoli most days,” said Rachel.

Mark added: “When he comes round and we have tea, like a processed chicken burger he’ll say, ‘I’m not eating that’ you got any chicken, or got anything healthy?”

Jake punctuated with rather large flatulence in front of Liberty one night this week, who laughed along with Jake.

Rachel said she was a ‘little embarrassed’ while watching the episode.

But Mark said: “I wasn’t. That is what he does. What he said afterwards with ‘you can chew on that’ is exactly him.

“When the family watched it, they said ‘that’s typical Cornish Family sense of humour”. It is refreshing to see some raw human behaviour.

Before Jake went into the Love Island Villa, his Mum and Dad had to pretend they didn’t know anything.

“Some of the family wondered why I was driving around in Jake’s car,” said his mum. “He is normally popping in to see the nieces and nephews to see how they are getting on.

“When he had not been around for a while, they had suspicions that he had gone somewhere.

“We had to keep it quiet because if it got out then he would not be able to go in. When they (wider family) found out all the family’s phones were red hot for a couple of days.”

When we watched Jake comfort Hugo the other night it was clear he is a people’s person and we hope to see some strong ‘bromances forming in the villa this year.

“I wouldn’t say he’s ‘bro’s first’, but they come a very very close second. He always likes to be around people. He’s not someone who would sit down on his own,” said Rachel.
