
First elected to the House of Commons in 2015, Sir Keir quickly rose through the ranks in Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.
He was first appointed as Shadow Minister for Immigration before being appointed Shadow Secretary for Exiting the European Union.
After Labour’s defeat in the 2019 general election, Mr Corbyn stepped down, opening the floodgates for a new leadership contest in the party.
After a drawn-out battle with key Labour figures like Lisa Nandy and Rebecca Long-Bailey, he was elected Labour Leader in April 2020.
