A large grass and hedge fire has broken out at a park in Bristol.
The blaze took hold just around 2pm today (Wednesday, June 16) in the foliage behind Hengrove Leisure Centre in the south of the city.
Two engines from Avon Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene and crews from Bedminster are currently tackling the flames with high pressured hoses and beaters.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “We were called at 2:25pm to a large grass and hedge fire at the rear of Hengrove Leisure Centre.
“We have two appliances there from Bedminster. Firefighters are using two high pressured hose reels and beaters to extinguish the fire.”
A member of the public spotted the fire and sent videos to Bristol Live that showed the blaze still in full force at 2.45pm today.
Grass that has not seen rain for weeks proved ready kindling, and the videographer captured the moment the flames leapt high enough to scorch trees and shrubbery.
