LIVE: Huge fire near M5 as pillars of smoke seen by drivers on motorway

A ‘huge plume’ of black smoke is visible to drivers on the M5 as firefighters tackle a blaze near Weston-super-Mare.

Four fire crews are working to put out a fire on Whitley Road in Banwell this afternoon.

The blaze can be seen for miles with motorway cameras capturing the smoke.

One driver said: “There was a huge plume of black smoke billowing into the air, blowing over the M5. Looked like it might have come from a farm. It was high enough to not affect traffic but there was a fair bit of rubbernecking.”

Avon Fire and Rescue Service say they have six fire crews currently in attendance.
