M6 traffic latest: Chaos as crane crashes into bridge on motorway – huge delays

The M6 heading southbound between junction 23 East Lancashire Road and 22 Winwick Lind Road is now blocked. The two outside lanes have now been blocked causing huge delays along the motorway. Traffic monitoring Inrix has confirmed that traffic is queuing for seven miles. 

It also reported travel time is now one hour and 20 minutes. 

The crash involved a collapsed crane with tailbacks reported at junction 25. 

Greater Manchester Police revealed the incident took place at 6.25am. 

The crane had fallen off the back of a truck after it hit a bridge. 

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: ” A hire truck with a crane crashed between j23 and j22 southbound of the M6 around 6.25am today.”
