Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

Location: Swindon

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Direct Reports: Trainees and Contractors (providing services)

Indirect Reports: None

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week to be worked flexibly in line with operational requirements (includes shift and being available on-call)

Job purpose:

We have an exciting opportunity with a company who specialises in advanced biofuels and new technology. This role is to provide ongoing engineering development and maintenance of our client’s process plant at Swindon, carrying out all planned and reactive maintenance works, ensuring that the plant is maintained and able to operate at the highest possible performance. All works will be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, whilst following all Health & Safety and legislative requirements. This will necessitate a flexible and adaptive working approach both to developing solutions to challenges and working patterns, whilst promoting a positive workplace culture. This role will be particularly suitable for a self-motivated, multi-skilled maintenance engineer with firsthand experience of the process industry who is looking to join a young company and help shape the maintenance and plant engineering for the future.

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

* To take direction from the Maintenance Supervisor as to the plant maintenance and inspection needs and develop priorities to meet timelines required,

* Ensure all data on completed works is captured in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for all planned & unplanned work.

* Ensure all activities are carried out in line with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and good working practices (safe systems of work, completing all necessary safety assessments, audits, inspections, calibrations, etc.)

* Monitor operations and identify corrective actions where necessary.

* Develop a full understanding of the operation and equipment of the CBM process.

* Support development of CMMS procedures, Risk Assessments and spares stockholding.

* Be an integral part of the Operations Team, by working alongside them to develop a detailed understanding of the site operations and challenges, and working together to improve plant efficiencies and utilisation.

* Assist in identifying and maintaining material stocks required for maintenance activities (critical spares, other spares, stock, and consignment stock, etc.) so that all works are completed in required time scales and plant efficiency and utilisation is not impacted.

* Support the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring all plant records are correct and up to date.

* Direct participation in and input to safety assessments and meetings (e.g. Hazop and risk assessments, development of safe systems of work) relating to plant modifications, additions etc., seeking external, third party validation or expertise where necessary.

* Help to run the plant at the highest availability and lowest cost, while striving for value.

Key abilities for job:

Essential

* Hands on experience of process equipment in a 24/7 working environment.

* Confident with mechanical, electrical/electronic, and C&I fault finding and rectification.

* Proven and significant work experience as a maintenance engineer in a related field.

* Recognised qualifications in mechanical, electrical/electronic maintenance.

* Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.

* Proven ability to work and direct work safely, ensuring the safety of others and complying with all safety assessment requirements.

* Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.

* Proven ability to plan, organise, monitor and report on work activities

* Supervision of contract support.

* Work flexibly in terms of working patterns, location, and reporting lines, to ensure that the plant is always adequately manned, including being on call,

* Work innovatively to provide solutions to particular challenges.

* Proven technical expertise and ability to quickly learn the operation and equipment of the new processes and equipment.

* Computer literacy.

* Strong decision-making and people management skills.

* Knowledge of waste & energy operations.

* Working knowledge of CMMS systems and Stock Control.

* Development of working procedures and formal risk assessments
