The city has changed drastically since then, but there are still some recognisable sights

It is hard to imagine Bristol in a time before Banksy, harbourside bars and landmark buildings like Cabot Circus.

City life in the 1980s was very different compared to the modern day, during an era that is now remembered for shoulder pads, punk rock and anarchy, and Thatcher’s reelections.

The decade in Bristol began with the riot in St Pauls in April 1980, when a police raid at the Black and White Café descended into chaos.
