PS5 surprise: Ubisoft offering free PlayStation download this weekend

PS5 gamers can download a new game this weekend and play it for a few days at no extra charge.

The latest in a steady stream of free downloads, Ubisoft is offering another exciting deal for anyone interested in trying out one of its most recent releases.

And with no sequel in sight, now might be the time to try out Watch Dogs: Legion on PS5 and PS4.

Set in London during an attempted security coup, gamers are tasked with recruiting an army to challenge the growing authoritative threat.

Legion offers a sweeping and detailed map of the English capital and was first launched by Ubisoft in 2020.

The famous publisher is well-known for offering its games as free trials, having just wrapped up a similar event for Rainbow Six Siege.

This time around, Ubisoft has decided on a more solo experience, with Legion offering a number of different modes and activities.

The game franchise never reached the same heights as Assasin’s Creed in either fan acclaim or popularity, but it’s still a great chance to experience something new on PS5.

The free trial begins on Friday, September 3, and is scheduled to run throughout the weekend, with Ubisoft telling fans this week:

“Watch Dogs: Legion is all about rebuilding the hacktivist collective DedSec and fighting against the oppressive forces of corrupt privatized military, criminal gangs, and cyber-terrorism in an authoritarian, near-future London. DedSec fights for freedom, safety, and free videogames… probably.

“That’s why, beginning September 3, you can play Watch Dogs: Legion for free on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Stadia until September 5.

“Preload is available on all platforms starting today, and if you enjoy your time with the game and want to keep playing after the free weekend (and carry over all your progress).

Ubisoft has also confirmed that Watch Dogs: Legion will be on sale across all the free-weekend platforms, including:

Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store: 60% off the Standard, Deluxe, Gold, and Ultimate Editions, and 25% off the Season Pass.

Stadia Pro: 55% off the Deluxe Edition and 50% off the Gold Edition.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4: 67% off the Deluxe and Gold Editions.

This might also be a great time to try out a new game if you’re a PS Plus subscriber waiting on the big September update.

As confirmed by Sony earlier this week, another three games will be released as part of the subscription service, starting on September 7.

All three games will be available to claim until October 4 and includes the following titles:
