L3MAPPS are currently recruiting for the exciting opportunity of System Engineering Associate Manager; this position will be based in Bristol. You will be responsible for 4-6 members of staff. Work is multi-disciplined, managing various technical resources and functions within the company. Problems may be complex and solutions require creativity within the conflicting parameters of specification, budget and schedule. Problems are mainly technical but occasionally people related, requiring pragmatism as well as technical skill. Some domestic and occasional overseas travel may be required.
Systems Engineering Associate Manager Duties
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineering Associate Manager to join our team based in Bristol.
The main purpose of the role is to carry out Systems Engineering resource management, monitor and conduct performance reviews, monitor and maintain resource demand. Support the maintenance of systems engineering capability via maintenance of the company’s systems engineering process framework and tools.
Apply Systems Engineering leadership in the technical domain. Apply problem solving, abstract thinking and creativity in the context of systems development.
Undertake systems engineering tasks, SE tools design & support, support for tools and processes and requirements capture and management, under the leadership of the Systems Engineering Manager and the Management Team.
NB: In addition to these responsibilities, employees are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.
We are seeking an enthusiastic degree qualified engineer (or equivalent) to join a growing systems engineering team. The successful applicant will receive exposure and experience working on large scale projects with opportunities to advance their career in the field of systems engineering. The applicant shall have worked in a professional engineering environment, be familiar with engineering processes and possess a strong appreciation of systems engineering fundamentals and a flair for leading teams.
As such the following will form the core responsibilities of the role:
Ensure systems engineering staff are enabled to execute their roles effectively and efficiently.
Carry out annual performance reviews for staff
Carry out resource matrix management for Systems Engineers deployed across multple projects, manage demand across projects
Support the development of systems engineering capability within the company (process and tools)
Definition and management of system level requirements;
Management of Verification and Validation (V&V) evidence and understand the importance of tracability to customer requirements;
Experience of managing system level compliance documentation and management of concessions;
Reviewing and communicating the impact of changes to the technical baseline;
Development of V&V test plans;
To review the verification evidence received from key suppliers for compliance, either personally or through liaison with suitably qualified experienced personnel;
Knowledge of SysML (Systems Modelling Language);
Support domain specialists in the definition and management of subsystem black box, white box and system interface diagrams.
Support design reviews and workshops to gain acceptance of the company designs from customer and project team stakeholders;
To capture voids in designs and present these to stakeholders.
Other ad hoc tasks as agreed with the line manager or work package lead.
Provide technical representation for the company to customers and suppliers and deputise for the technical manager on occasions;
Systems Engineering Associate Manager Requirements
Knowledge of MODAF and DODAF architectural frameworks;
Equivalent of 6+ years’ experience working on complex engineering projects;
Good understanding of systems concepts, context, boundaries, interfaces, system hierarchy and the principles of system partitioning in order to help manage complexity;
Understands the characteristics of good quality requirements, elicitation methods and tools;
Good understanding of requirements engineering within Defence Projects;
Knowledge of Systems Design methodologies;
Able to understand detail and a low level of fidelity in technical decision making;
Good planning, communications, and co-ordination skills;
Excellent PC skills (Experience with DOORS is essential; System Architect or Rhapsody would be beneficial);
Knowledge of marine systems engineering would be beneficial but not essential
