Thor Love and Thunder is building off the course correction in Ragnarök. Focusing more on the humour, it will see Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder step aside to allow Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster to wield Mjolnir. Director Taika Waititi is returning to helm the MCU sequel, recently calling it “the craziest film I’ve done.” Fans are scratching their heads over what could possibly happen in the film, but another star has just added to the confusion. In a new interview, “weird” and “erotic” powers have been teased that will redefine what a Marvel hero can do.
Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie first stepped into the MCU in Thor: Ragnarök, before making a small appearance in Avenger: Endgame. She is set to have a much larger role as the new Queen of Asgard in the fourth cosmic epic.
She will be looking for her Queen during the film, setting up the romantic subplot of the movie and revealing her to be the MCU’s first major LGBT character. Now Thompson has updated fans on what to expect, teasing that she is “essentially God,” and that it will be “quite erotic.”
Speaking to W Magazine, Thompson said: “She has weird skills, to be honest. She can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It’s a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God.”
Valkyries are taken straight out of real Norse myth and are powerful warrior maidens that carried the dead from battlefields up to the gates of Valhalla. Thompson’s comments reveal that fans will get to see her using the full extent of her abilities in the upcoming instalment.

Her statement comes after the Waititi recently teased a mind-boggling plot that almost “shouldn’t be made.”
Speaking to Empire, the director explained: “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”
Only a few official stills have been released so far, showcasing Hemsworth’s new look as an 80s inspired cyberpunk heartthrob. He, Thompson and Portman will be joined by none other than Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.
Russell Crowe recently revealed that he will be playing Zeus as well, confirming the presence of Greek Gods, alongside the Norse, in the Marvel universe. Not only that, but Matt Damon and Sam Neill are also returning as the amateur stage actors portraying Fake Loki and Fake Odin, respectively.
Set for release on July 8, 2022, it could be the last time Hemsworth graces the MCU. In a recent interview with Australia’s morning show Today, the star hinted that while he would be up for playing Thor for as long as Disney will have him, they might be done with the Norse God.
Referencing the recent release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which just became the eighth highest-grossing film of all time to the tune of $1.5 billion, the Australian star said: “How many Spider-Mans has he done? He’s a little behind me. I think he’s done three, I’ve done six or seven Thors, so maybe. As long as they’ll have me, I’ll turn up, but I feel like they might be waning that kind of enthusiasm for me.”
