One of Bristol’s best known independent hospitality groups is launching a brand new cocktail bar in the city this weekend.
Situated above Four Wise Monkeys just off Corn Street in the Old City, The Raven is the latest opening from the Hyde & Co group, whose other venues include the eponymous Hyde & Co bar, The Milk Thistle, The Ox and Seven Lucky Gods.
Inspired by the world of tarot and the occult, The Raven will bring Hyde & Co’s usual blend of exceptional cocktails and outstanding service, as well as an array of immersive performance and live music.
The cocktail menu has been created by Hyde & Co’s award-winning bartenders, and was inspired by a movement of cocktails started in the 40’s by legendary cocktail connoisseurs Trader Vic and Don the Beachcomber known as Tiki, but with a modern twist.
The menu follows the story of three ravens, and is based on the traditional story of tarot, and the journey of ‘The Fool’. The original artwork was created by local designer Gareth Aldridge and the story was written by barman Michael Presley Sharpe.
As well as the cocktails, The Raven will also be presenting live entertainment from Wednesday to Saturday, with an ever-changing lineup of musicians, dancers, magicians, tarot readers and immersive walkabout performers, meaning guests can always expect the unexpected.
Speaking about the new opening, Hyde & Co founder Nathan Lee, who runs the hospitality group alongside Jason Mead and Kevin Stokes, said: “The Raven has been a work in progress for over two years now, with the pandemic inevitably holding it up, so we’re thrilled to finally be opening the doors.
“We felt Bristol was really lacking a cocktail bar that brought great drinks, service and performance together under one roof, and have worked really hard to create something unlike anywhere else, so we’re extremely excited to bring our concept to the city for people to experience.”
The Raven will also be offering membership, which entitles members to priority booking, complimentary welcome drinks and preferential options for private parties and events.
The Raven will be open from 6pm until late, from Wednesday to Saturday, and will open its doors this Saturday (December 4). Booking is essential and can be done on the bar’s website.
