We knew it was coming and Storm Barra lived up to its billing, causing widespread chaos on Tuesday (December 7).

The Atlantic storm barrelled into Bristol after sweeping across the Republic of Ireland, right on cue and after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning until 11.59pm on Tuesday.

Whiteladies Road, in front of the BBC Bristol building, was flooded as motorists drove slowly and carefully through the flood water.

The wet and windy weather also saw pedestrians climbing over walls in the Clifton Triangle and Whiteladies Road area.

Parts of the M5 have also been affected today by flooding.

The worst of the weather may not be over with more heavy rain forecast from 9pm to midnight on Tuesday, with Wednesday also under a severe weather warning from midnight to 6pm.

The worst of the rain in the Bristol area is expected from 10am to 2pm before the weather clears.

The latest information on the weather is in our live blog.
