After the chaos of Married at First Sight Australia, viewers have been eagerly awaiting the return of the E4 series, and the opening episode did not disappoint.
The show features 16 contestants who are set to walk down the altar and tie the knot, but there’s a catch.
All eight couples have never met before and were matched using a combination of science and a lengthy questionnaire – how romantic.
And with the drama already kicking off on Monday night’s show, we’ve got everything you need to know about this year’s contestants.
Who are the Married at First Sight UK 2021 contestants?
From a personal trainer to a former reality star and the show’s first-ever same-sex couple, here’s what you can expect from this year’s Married at First Sight brides and goods.
Adam’s perfect woman would have nice eyes and be a natural beauty. He’s after someone with ambition, who’s spontaneous and positive.
He’s feeling hopeful about the experience, saying: “Forcing myself into the situation where I have to be with someone – I’m only going to take positives from it. Hopefully I’ll find the right one.”
Alexis is a model looking for someone who’s ambitious, well-spoken, family-orientated and well-educated.
She’s hoping for “a best friend kind of relationship as she’s never had that before”.
And explains: “I’ve applied to this to find the good guy, to find someone genuine and someone who wants commitment.
“I give my all and I’m very supportive. I’m looking for someone on my wavelength and I want someone who is going to take the reins a little bit.”
Job: Sports journalist and influencer
Amy’s using the show as a way to learn to let her guard down and wants to learn what love is.
She says of the experience: “With Married At First Sight UK, either I’m going to find the love of my life or I’m going to learn a really big lesson from it, which might lead me to the love of my life.”
Job: Business development
Ant’s looking for someone who’s funny, bubbly, ambitious and up for exploring and adventure.
He says: “The best that could happen is that the experts find me a match and it works out perfectly and find our happily ever after.
“The worst case is it doesn’t work out and I make some new friends and I learn a bit about myself as a person.”
Location: Northern Ireland
Daniel forms one half of the show’s first gay couple and wants to share his passion for hiking, cold water swims, meditation and vegetarian living with others.
He says: “Married At First Sight UK is a big experience and quite nerve-racking in many ways.
“However it is something that will allow me to shift my pattern in terms of relationships and it is a blessing to have the professional and scientific advice that will help me.”
Job: Strength and conditioning coach
Franky previously fought for his country and now lives in Dubai where he works as a fitness coach. He’s hoping his new wife will join him in the sunny destination.
Not one to beat around the bush, he’s described as a “strong, dominant leader” who tells people “exactly what he thinks”.
Franky says: “All my life has been about challenges. I don’t like to do the normal. If anything is normal then I find it boring.
“I’m not captured unless I’m entertained and challenged – and Married At First Sight UK is a bloody big challenge.”
Job: Personal trainer
It looks as though Jordon’s set to be the show’s sweetheart, as he’s described as a “gentle and very positive soul”.
He’s looking for someone to bring home to his grandmother and says: “My happily ever after would be to learn stuff about myself that I didn’t know before.
“I want to become stronger as a person and to obviously walk away with a partner and with some new friends.”
Joshua is looking for someone who can balance their work and social life, as well as a wife who works hard, likes fitness, but doesn’t take themselves too seriously.
He says: “I think marriage has always been on my cards, but I could never see myself getting on one knee, so this is a fast track!
“Sometimes I need to be kicked into the deep end so for me this is the start of a new chapter.”
Job: Care home manager and firefighter
Luke was left heartbroken after his last relationship came to an end, but he’s since spent time working on and rebuilding himself.
He’s been described as the perfect gent and says: “I already have more in common with this person than I would do meeting them on dating apps or in the pub.
“Because they’ve done the same thing, they must be in a similar circumstance to me.”
Job: Personal trainer
Marilyse describes herself as strong, switched-on and very positive and she’s looking to meet a man with similar traits, who’s also a best friend and soulmate.
She says: “I would love to go through to the experiment to the very end and still be with the guy.
“That is what I want to happen and what I expect to happen. I will be a bit disappointed if it doesn’t happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Location: West Yorkshire
Job: Charity worker
Also part of the show’s only same-sex couple, Matt is looking for someone to grow old with.
Having previously worked in the corporate world, the singleton switched careers and focused on the charity sector following his dad’s prostate cancer diagnosis in 2004.
He says: “The reason I’ve come onto the show is because I’m really wanting to meet that special person that I can start building a life with and have a family. I’m really excited.”
Job: Wellness coach
Megan’s ideal man would have a great sense of humour and make her laugh, but she also wants someone who’s polite, kind, ambitious and confident.
The contestant says: “My dating history is horrendous, I have terrible taste. Of course, it is a good option to get someone to do it for me.
“It just felt like an opportunity I couldn’t miss. Each step of the way has felt more and more right.”
Job: Veterinary nurse
Having recently lost her father after his illness, Morag is looking to find someone to commit to.
She’s looking for a partner who’s ready to embrace her big laugh, while also being adventurous, fun and ready to party.
Morag explains: “I want the experts to help because I’ve got high expectations of myself and what I want from my partner.
“I want them to help me open up and let someone in.”
Location: County Durham
Described as emotionally charged, stubborn and someone who wears her heart on her sleeve, Nikita’s set to bring plenty of drama to the show.
The contestant has already planned her wedding and picked her (future) children’s names.
Nikita says: “Ideally, we all want our Prince Charming who we are going to be with until the day we die.
“I just think that if I meet someone who blows me away and we’re on the same wavelength and have proper banter it will be great.”
Job: Business protection specialist
Known as ‘Big Bob’ to his friends, Robert has a big personality and is looking for someone with a similar demeanour who enjoys having a laugh.
He says: “I want to have fun all the time, so I want someone who wants to go out and do things.
“Someone who is on my wavelength with how I look at life.”
Location: Welwyn Garden City
Job: Estate agent
Tayah’s looking for someone who takes care of themselves and looks good while standing next to her.
She reveals her hopes for the show, saying: “My happy ever after would be that I’ve always wanted to get married and wanted kids. I’ve always wanted to be a young mum.
“My end goal is to have that family and have that family unit. So that would be an ideal situation to come from this.”
Married at First Sight UK airs every Monday to Thursday at 9pm on E4 for 21 episodes.
