Who is Question of Sport team captain Sam Quek and what’s her TV past


A Question of Sport is in its 51st year of broadcasting making it the world’s longest-running TV sports quiz and Sam Quek has been announced as one of the new team captains.

The show is looking different this year with a brand new host and team captains set to shake things up.

With sports legends gracing our screens with the aim to battle for their captain’s success, it’s a game for the whole family. It’s a test of wit, preparedness and skill to help get answers right.

Who is Sam Quek and what TV shows has she been on before?

Sam Quek MBE is one of the new team captains on the show. The decorated athlete won a women’s hockey Olympic gold for Great Britain in the Rio 2016 games. She has also taken a European gold and a Commonwealth silver for the country.

She has since retired from Hockey and has starred in I’m A Celebrity…. Get Me Out of Here! in 2016 where she came 4th place in the competition. She has also presented many sports shows, including fronting the 2020 Olympics coverage.

Quek, born on the Wirral, Merseyside, also makes history by being the first female team captain on the show.

The 32-year-old said about the new role: “This really is my dream job.”

She also admitted that she felt a lot of responsibility because she was the first female captain on the show.

Who else is joining her on Question of Sport?

Quek is joined by other famous faces, including Take Me Out’s Paddy McGuinness, who has taken over from world-class tennis player Sue Barker as the presenter. He said the show was a long-standing favourite of his from an early age.

Quek’s opposing team captain is Ugo Monye, a former rugby union international. Monye has won 14 caps for England over his 13-year career.

When does the new series of Question of Sport start on BBC?

Watch Question of Sport tonight at 7.35pm on BBC one.

The three new resident faces will be joined by four stars of the Tokyo Olympics, including triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown, diver Matty Lee, weightlifter Emily Campbell and champion boxer Lauren Price.
