Neighbours have been warned of “significant” noise disruption as overnight roadworks close Winterbourne High Street.

The works are due to commence in the large village near Bristol tomorrow night (Tuesday, August 31) and run for three weeks until Wednesday, September 22.

They will only close the road overnight during that period, between the hours of 8pm to 6am, meaning access will be retained during the daytime.

South Gloucestershire Council has warned that the essential resurfacing of the road “will create a significant amount of noise” as the old layer is removed.

The announcement shared on its Street Care Facebook page advised: “The road needs to be closed to all traffic so we can carry out essential resurfacing works.

“The surface of the road must be removed before it can be resurface, which will create a significant amount of noise. The closures will take place at night to minimise disruption to daytime traffic.

“A signed diversion will be in place while the road is closed and we will maintain access for businesses and residents wherever possible.”

There are houses lining both sides of the street, and the road is also home to Winterbourne Academy, a nursing home and several businesses.

First Bus has shared an update with passengers as services Y3, Y4 and Y6 will be diverted during the closures.

According to a record of the works listed on One.Network, which logs roadworks, the entire High Street will be closed between the junctions of Swan Lane and Beacon Lane.
